Project Start

February 26, 2004

Jeez! Days are flying by! Yesterday, I totally forgot about a programme I was supposed to attend! Had my last training session on-site. Project tracking has begun! Btw, found out about an Email client for Linux called Ximian Connector exists which actually has MS Exchange support! Unfortunately, they charge for a licence. 😦

Feelin’ Good

February 23, 2004

All right! Now this is what I call work! No Monday blues at all! I think I’ve finally got the hang of this stuff – I guess all it needed (and deserved) wuz some dedicated reading! 😉

Reported to a manager, who wasn’t too pleased with my commitment. I’m already changing that though. Gotta prepare the API document at the end of the week. I’m working my ass off to this end, but for a change, it does feel good on fire! 🙂

Heh heh! Now I feel I’m worth those big bucks I get at the end of the month. I feel I’m earning them…
If things go this way, I’d prefer remaining comfortably ensconced. A nice job, a nice bike, a nice house, nice friends…
What more could a guy ask for?! [Well I could think of a coupla things, but it isn’t fair]

Life sure is great…

Project

February 20, 2004

Installing Code Composer Studio 2.20 …
Updating CCS 2.20 to CCS 2.21 …

Oh yeah, I’m neck deep into the project now, so its ByeBye Bangalore. Of course I’ll keep visiting you, my dear bloggie. ‘Cuz thats the only respite I’ll get. But I’m really happy to be working again! Life’s not boring anymore. Every weekday, 9 am – 9 pm is filled for me now. 🙂

Well the Kimi dude has toppled Monty’s Valencia record. So did Webber! 😮 I think this season is gonna be even more exciting than the last. Yoohoo! Looks like McLaren were testing components of their MP4-19B, which they’re planning to introduce later into the season.

A coupla schoolmates have landed in Bangy. To prep for GRE n’ job-hunt. I guess I will meet Harith n Binoop tomorrow. OK byebye. Time to lunch n’ munch n’ then get back to work… 😉

G.O.D.

February 19, 2004

Cool! Wuz able to go for the O.M. Meet after all. But with 0% participation (wuz a half-hour late), it wuz quite a bore, I say! Had dinner with Ashik n Sandy (long time no see pals now) at Kadamba [Bar & Restaurant closeby which accepts our Food Coupons] and went back home late at 10 pm with Sangram, my projectmate-cum-beermate 😉

Partook of my dabba dinner and got down to a small discussion about Lord Siva. Incidentally, yesterday was Sivaratri and Infosys/Wipro had holidays. Unfortunately, we did not. The management prefers to give us a holiday on Good Friday instead, GOK why! Maybe ‘cuz we’ll then get three consecutive days off! Good! 😉

Well, so we were discussing the Creator, Preserver (or Protector) and Destroyer roles of GOD. There were differences of opinion, but I found these links which show we were all kinda right. Thats the beauty of Hindutva.

Sh*t happens

February 18, 2004

Hell! What a soup! Had this Outspoken Minds meet scheduled at 6 pm, which I was supposed to MC. And now, inspite of there being forty hours in a week to schedule a project meeting, they’ve just gone and chosen the exact one hour (outside work hours, mind you!) coinciding with my O.M. Meet. Jeez! All the prep. for nothing! I was really looking forward to it…

Well. Looking at the bright side of the day’s events, its heartening that I finally managed to configure Samba Server to run successfully on my machine! 🙂

Music on Linux

February 17, 2004

Wowie. This is the first time I’m posting from Redhat. Guess why? Right. I finally did get the sound working! Woohoo! Finally had to download an rpm of an older alsa driver. Phew!

Got mplayer, its skins and fonts, xmms (the one which comes default with redhat 9 doesn’t play MP3 ‘cuz of some copyright issue) and whatnot. Hey if you know where I could download popular songs in ogg format, please send me email, ok?

Meeting Lucky Ali

February 16, 2004

I’d been to TI Friday afternoon for a training session. On my way back, I saw this black Toyota Lexus LX470. Knew it had to be someone important driving it. Looked like Lucky Ali to me. Well, I followed the $64,800 monster on my bike until it stopped and he got out. Wonder why people pay more for less. I was still looking at the Lexus. Its definitely worth its price. Well yeah… the guy was Lucky Ali indeed. Shook hands with him and got his autograph. In that lovely unique voice of his, he said, “Good Luck”! 🙂 Nice experience. Drove away to Koramangla and met Avinash (ex-Chinmaya pal). Walked around 1st block with him for a coupla hours. Got back for dabba dinner.

Saturday wuz great. Lazed around the house till after noon when we (Deepu and I) went for the Carnival. Got Wipro buses (nope, I don’t work there. But…) to Global Village, the premises proposed for the the new branch. Lovely place with undulations n dotted with palm trees, reminiscent of home sweet home. The Club House done in Kerala-style added the finishing touch. Lapsed into holiday mood n tried the games. Held a brick up for a minute n won a tea cup. Tried shooting balloons, throwing darts, etc. in vain. Dinner wuz sumptuous but we had to wait in the bus for eternity before it started on its way back. Picked up the bike from office n returned home to drop Deepu. Rode to Madivala n picked up Rupesh (ex-Chinmaya pal again) who wuz waiting there for an hour (Curse me!). Had a jolly good time together with Deepu n went off to sleep.

Sunday wuz pretty uneventful. Watched ‘Something’s Gotta Give’ n ‘Scary Movie 3’ on VCD. Both superb movies. Went with Deepu n Rupesh to Brigade Road in the evening n roamed around as usual. They left n I returned for dinner with Venky at Disco Dhaba, a lovely Punjabi style eat-out on 14th ‘A’ Main near the BTM Lake. Got back home n crashed out…

Ventures

February 12, 2004

Hmm… life is interesting. I’m doing new things everyday. Yday I watched Adi, a Gulti (our affectionate term for Telugu) movie. Kinda nice. Today I added a few yogasanas to my already-increasing list of exercises. I had time to spare, having woken up at 7.15. I intend to do this daily.

Ah! Joined funtrivia.com but its a crappy site I feel. Found it when I wuz searching for a geometrical term. This site had a quiz, which of course I aced! I don’t have an IQ of 160 for nothing, y’know 😉

Btw yday’s speech wuz good, but not good enough to win me the Best Speaker award. But as per my speech conclusion, I believe in the Charles Schulz’ philosophy. So I shouldn’t bother 😉 You wanna know what it is? Aw c’mon… use that Search Agent. How else did you manage to find this blog anyway?! 😉

Arbit Crap

February 11, 2004

OK, I’m gonna halt this blogging business for a few days. Reasons: My project commences on Monday. There are quite a few things I’ve uncharacteristically been putting off for later… So I’ll be busy ramping up during the weekend. Have an Outspoken Minds session today. I’ve to make a speech. Topic: Myself 😉 Kinda easy, eh? Well, lets hope it goes well.

Did something yesterday I rarely do. Watched Samay. A shameless remake of Seven with Sushmita Sen (She’s gorgeous!) taking Brad Pitt‘s role. I have to admit the movie’s taken quite well though …

Woke up today and did the Surya Namaskar. Felt great. Will keep this up. Used Subra‘s dumbbells too. Getting really worked up about this exercise thing. Need to wake up earlier than usual I guess… Need to walk more too.

Btw got some nice Kimi goodies recently. Hmm.. some Carnival being organised on 14th Feb by SPARCS, a crappy thing around here which somehow manages to pick out the worst kinda things to organize [read Cricket tournament]. Even might’ve gone if not for the MGM Dizzeeworld trash experience at Chennai recently.

Hobbies = Life

February 10, 2004

hem.. hem.. (Umbridge ishtyle) The Grammys reflect the tastes of the world, eh?! Well, what is the world coming to?! I admit that I haven’t listened to many of Beyonce’s or Justin’s songs myself… but are they really deserving?! One well-deserved Grammy did go to Coldplay for Clocks… and there were raised eyebrows! Why oh why?! I wonder…

Played snooker yday… Went pretty well really, though the cue felt strange, as usual. If I wuz Bill Gates, I’d have bought myself a cue. While at it, I guess I could also get an English table made, with the works of course. i.e. heater beneath… nah. Lets not rub it in. Well, as someone said, Dream like you’re gonna live forever, and live like you’re gonna die tomorrow! 😉

Well, just looked up the Dodge Tomahawk, Daimler Chrysler’s concept bike, powered by none other than the Dodge Viper’s 8.3L engine. Generates only 500 bhp! 😮 Also discovered this incredible fact, that there actually is a guy who rode a bicycle at a speed of 110+ kph!

There’s bad news… check out Kimi admits to MP4-19 uncertainty Finn “not sure” how good new car is following tough Barcelona test. Man, I just hope the damn thing starts working well by Mar. 7th. :`-(
